We are on Day 2 of organizing your home life by creating a family command center. I broke this process into the same steps I used to create our center. If you have never heard of a family command center please check out the video tour of our setup.
On Day 1 you wrote down everything you and your family wish to organize in the family command center.
Prioritize Your List
Next step for Day 2 is prioritize your list into the following categories below. Again I encourage you to ask other family members in the house for their priority as well.
- Must have
2. High priority
3. Medium priority
4. Nice but not necessary
Find a location(s) in your home
Your options are as flexible as your imagination
- Cupboard space
- Office area
- Counter space
- Choose a location of easy access for the whole family.
- You may need to create two areas if you are cramped for space. One for your organization files and another for your family to access and use.
Post -it Note Planning
Write down each item on your prioritized list individually on a post-it note. Begin placing the post it notes on your future family command center area. Move the post it notes around to figure our your possible set up.
- Use painters tape to hold up the sticky notes that become unsticky (test on a small piece of your wall first to ensure the tape will not damage the wall).
- Ask your family to look over your post-it note setup and gain their input. Again this is important if you desire your family to use the Family Command Center!
–> Complete your prioritized list with your family
–> Complete a house walk-thru looking for potential areas
–> Use post-it notes to plan your setup
Stay tuned for Day 3, your time and work will pay off!
